The Green Party has unveiled its Poverty Action Plan, which includes a Guaranteed Minimum Income to ensure people have enough to live with dignity. The scheme resets income support payments to ensure everyone not in full-time paid work gets at least $325 a week. People with kids or disability will receive extra support.

David Seymour has been confirmed as the Party’s Leader and number 1 on the list. “Since the last election our membership has tripled and we are now standing 56 candidates up from 42 last time. ACT has huge momentum and it’s showing through in the high calibre candidates standing for the Party,” he said.

Labour’s rising star, sat with his namesake Gaurav Sharma, Associate Editor of The Indian News, on Thursday, for a straight talk on a range of issues concerning racism, migrant exploitation, his drive in politics, his election campaign for 2020, his priorities for Hamilton West, and Labour’s plan for economic revival in a post-covid New Zealand.

Rima Nakhle has been selected by the National Party to stand in Takanini for this year’s General Election. Takanini is a new electorate in South Auckland.

Getting on top of the Covid-19 crisis in New Zealand has been a huge achievement by our team of 5 million. However, the health crisis has brought some tough times which mean we need to focus on recovering and rebuilding our economy.

Last week, Kiwi-Indian MP and first-time Parliamentarian Priyanca Radhakrishnan was confirmed as the ruling Labour Party’s candidate for Maungakiekie in Auckland.

As I am write this column New Zealand has moved into our first day at Covid Alert Level 1 after two weeks of no new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand and confirmation yesterday that we have zero remaining active cases.

“Project funding would be split 70/30 between Government money and private sector investment. National’s Tourism Accelerator will provide direct cash support to businesses and tourist operators that are currently tossing up whether to re-open or shut up shop for good.”

All internal party turmoil aside, last week was particularly good for Kiwi-Indian and National’s List MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi based in Manukau East, Auckland.

As I write this, New Zealand is still at COVID-19 Alert Level 2. The Cabinet is reviewing the regulations on Monday 25th.

There is no Team Todd, there is no Team Nikki, or anyone else – there is only Team National. National has always been a coalition of city and country, business and community, conservatives and liberals – National is the party for all New Zealanders.
