The Member of Parliament and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut visited the Weaves of India Festival at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (The Cottage) in Janpath, New Delhi, on Sunday.
During her visit, the actress explored the exhibition featuring 116 traditional handloom weaves from across the country and interacted with master weavers from different states, appreciating their craftsmanship and the rich legacy of India’s handloom traditions.
Kangana Ranaut closely observed renowned handloom traditions including Banarasi, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Muga, and Bhagalpuri Silk, among many others. She praised India’s vibrant textile heritage and said that such exhibitions not only strengthen the country’s cultural identity but also provide an important platform for artisans and weavers, according to the press note by DC Handlooms.
The actress and politician expressed her happiness at attending the Weaves of India Festival on Sunday.
Kangana Ranaut said, “I am very delighted to be here. As you know, when people used to meet me, they used to say that they like my acting a lot. They used to ask me where I get my sarees from. So, everybody is so curious about where I get my sarees from. I tell everybody that I directly get my sarees from the weavers. Whether it is the Prime Minister’s efforts for Make in India, Made in India or for self-reliance.”
“We have come to know about the struggles of the weavers and the respect that they deserve. We are trying our best for that. I would like to thank all of you for this initiative and especially for Handloom Day, which is being held on August 7,” added Kangana.
According to the outlet, the exhibition is being jointly organised by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles and the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC). It will remain open to the public until August 7, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.
The festival brings together 116 traditional handloom weaves from across India under one roof. National Award-winning weavers from various states are showcasing and offering for sale an exquisite collection of traditional sarees, dupattas, shawls, and other handcrafted textile products.-ANI
