The Wellington Indian Association (WIA) proudly hosted Sari Atelier 2026, a vibrant and elegant fashion showcase that celebrated the richness, diversity, and timeless beauty of Indian culture. The event brought together members of the community for an evening filled with fashion, tradition, and cultural pride, highlighting the enduring significance of Indian heritage in New Zealand.

Organised by the Wellington Indian Association, the event was led by a dedicated team including Sonam Gandhi, Sukanya Battacharya, and Manisha Morar, whose vision and hard work helped transform the occasion into one of Wellington’s most memorable cultural events of the year.
A total of 65 male and female models from across the Wellington region participated in the show. Representing a wide range of ages and backgrounds, the participants took to the runway in four carefully curated fashion segments that beautifully showcased the elegance and diversity of traditional Indian attire. From classic saris and ethnic wear to contemporary interpretations of cultural fashion, each sequence reflected the rich traditions, artistry, and regional diversity that make Indian clothing unique.

Adding prestige to the event was the presence of Muanpuii Saiawi, the High Commissioner of India to New Zealand. In a memorable highlight of the evening, she joined the models on the catwalk, delighting the audience and demonstrating her support for initiatives that celebrate Indian culture and strengthen community ties.
The event drew an audience of approximately 350 people, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and cultural pride. Attendees were impressed by the professionalism, creativity, and seamless organisation of the show. Many guests praised the high standard of presentation and described Sari Atelier 2026 as one of the most impressive cultural fashion events ever staged in Wellington.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the event was its focus on community participation. Rather than relying on professional models, Sari Atelier featured residents who volunteered to take part, showcasing the confidence, talent, and diversity that exist within Wellington’s Indian community. Their involvement helped make the event more inclusive and meaningful, reflecting the spirit of unity and belonging that lies at the heart of the association’s work.
Beyond the glamour of the runway, Sari Atelier 2026 served a deeper purpose. The event provided an opportunity to promote cultural awareness, preserve traditional values, and encourage greater appreciation of India’s rich heritage among people of all backgrounds. It also strengthened community connections by bringing together families, friends, and supporters in a celebration of culture and identity.
More than simply a fashion show, Sari Atelier 2026 was a powerful expression of heritage, unity, and community spirit. The Wellington Indian Association extends its heartfelt thanks to all the models, volunteers, sponsors, supporters, masters of ceremonies, and attendees whose dedication and enthusiasm contributed to the event’s outstanding success. Their collective efforts ensured that Sari Atelier 2026 became a truly unforgettable celebration of Indian culture in Wellington. -TIN Bureau
