The New Zealand Indian Central Association has announced its newly elected governing body during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference held on 11 April 2026 in Auckland, marking a significant moment in the organisation’s historic centenary year.
The newly elected leadership team includes Veer Khar as President, Dhansukh Lal as Vice President, Bhavisha Payel as Treasurer, Taruna Bhana as General Secretary, and Kalyan Rao as Assistant Secretary. The appointments signal a renewed commitment to strengthening community engagement and continuing NZICA’s long-standing legacy of advocacy and service.
The AGM and Conference took place at Mahatma Gandhi Hall, bringing together community leaders, members, and stakeholders from across the country. The day began with a warm welcome, networking over morning tea, and a group photo session, followed by a conference focused on reflections from NZICA’s 100-year journey.
A highlight of the event was the presence of the Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Muanpuii Saiawi, who attended as a special guest, along with the Consul General of India in Auckland, Dr Madan Mohan Sethi. Their participation underscored the strong and enduring ties between India and New Zealand, and the important role played by community organisations like NZICA in fostering cultural and diplomatic connections.
This year’s gathering carried special significance as it forms part of NZICA’s centenary celebrations, building on the momentum of the Centenary Curtain Raiser held earlier in February 2026. Discussions during the conference highlighted the association’s contributions to the Indian community in New Zealand, its advocacy work, and its vision for the future.

Following the conference and lunch, the AGM proceedings continued into the afternoon, including the election of the new governing body. Members actively participated in shaping the leadership that will guide NZICA into its next chapter. The celebrations concluded with a special centenary dinner in the evening, honouring a century of community leadership, cultural preservation, and social contribution. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on past achievements while looking ahead to future aspirations.
As NZICA enters its next century, the newly elected leadership is expected to play a crucial role in fostering unity, promoting cultural heritage, and advancing the interests of the Indian community across New Zealand. –TIN Bureau
