Caring for Community Wellbeing: Flu Vaccination Drive 2026

As the seasons change and winter approaches, Disha NZ Charitable Trust continues its commitment to caring for the wellbeing of the community. In response to the colder months and increased health risks, DISHA NZ is organising a Flu Vaccination Drive on Wednesday, 14 May at Balmoral Community Hall, in partnership with Muskaan Care Trust and Unichem Pharmacy, Pakuranga.
Flu vaccination is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself, your whānau, and the wider community during winter. With strong influenza strains circulating, the flu can lead to serious illness, complications, and even hospitalisation, particularly for older adults, young children, pregnant people, and those living with long-term health conditions.
The good news is that many people in Aotearoa New Zealand are eligible for a funded flu vaccine through PHARMAC, meaning protection may be available at no cost. Taking this simple step not only reduces the risk of becoming seriously unwell but also helps protect loved ones and vulnerable members of the community.
Since 2019, Muskaan Care Trust has been strengthening community health by improving access to vaccinations and enabling early action. Through flu and COVID vaccination initiatives, the organisation has brought essential health services closer to where people live, helping prevent illness before it takes hold.
DISHA NZ Trust continues this initiative in 2026, with a special focus on senior citizens, in collaboration with Muskaan Care Trust, and Unichem Pharmacy. The vaccination clinic is designed to be more than just a health service – it provides a warm and welcoming space for connection, where seniors can meet, interact, and spend meaningful time together. Accessible, local, and community-driven, the initiative supports independence while nurturing overall wellbeing.
There is also growing evidence that flu vaccination may help reduce the risk of heart-related complications, such as heart attacks and strokes, making it an important step for both respiratory and heart health.
DISHA NZ extends heartfelt thanks to its partners and the community for their continued trust and collaboration. Together, these efforts are helping build a healthier, more informed, and resilient community.
