Sadhguru: Many human beings are delusional enough to think the whole existence is human-centric. It is not. If none of us were here, the Sun will still come up in the same glory. The Sun does not rise for you. In the same way, whatever you refer to as the Divine does not need your devotion. It makes no difference to the Divine whether you are devoted or not.
Let us look at what devotion is. On one level, devotion is a certain sweetness of emotion. It is the best way to be for any human being. If you do not carry this sweetness, life will leave its imprint on you and you will become bitter. Do not think you can insulate yourself. You can build a home, a family, a huge bank balance, but you will not remain insulated. Insulation works only for a certain period of time. If there is no sweetness within you, one way or the other, life eventually gets you and you will become bitter and resentful. This has happened to a large segment of humanity. But with devotion, there is an enduring sweetness within that does not depend on anything external.
On another level, devotion is a kind of intelligence that the intellect cannot understand. A devotee can access a different dimension of intelligence. He will see things that nobody else will see because devotion means you are devoid of yourself. Between you and the ultimate reality, there is only one barrier: yourself. Devotion means you must become devoid of yourself. If that is not possible, at least you should reduce what you call as “yourself” to a minimum. If you are no longer full of yourself, there is emptiness in you. Then, something can touch you and transform you. Life will explode within you in ways that you have not imagined possible.
The nature of a rudimentary intellect is such that if it wants to know anything, it has to dissect it. If you analyze something, you may learn how to make use of it, but you will not really know it. Only if you completely include something can you know it. There is no other way.
If you give a flower to a scientist, he will cut it up because he wants to know what is inside. A poet will sing songs about the flower. He does not know what is inside, he does not care what is inside but it gives him joy. A mystic will become a flower because for him, the hand of the Creator is actively present even in a small flower. If you pay enough attention to a blade of grass, you will see it has been created with a phenomenal sense of attention.
has to function in you. To be in devotion is the easiest way If you want to access any other dimension, your intellect is not good enough. A deeper dimension of intelligence to access this.
