One of the leading Indian community organisations in New Zealand working for the multi-ethnic South Asian communities, Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust, celebrated the completion of 25 years of its existence in grand style. The Silver Jubilee celebrations were held at Genesis Lounge at The Trust Arena in Henderson on Saturday 24th April, where a galaxy of dignitaries took part in the 3 hour long glittering function.

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust was founded in 1995 by community leader Jeet Sachdev with an able support from his sister Roopa Sachdev. With a humble start 25 years ago, today Bhartiya Samaj has reached to the pinnacle of its services to the community with over 1500 members on record. Bhartiya Samaj provide a range of services to senior citizens, youths, and new immigrants equally and are always available to those in need in the hour of a crisis. The silver jubilee celebration had a range of cultural and entertainment programmes for the invited guest. The list of star attendees included the High Commissioner of India Muktesh Pardeshi and his wife, India’s Hon Consul Bhav Dhillon, Minister Michael Wood, Deborah Russell MP, Melissa Lee MP, Judge Swarn Ajit Singh, a large representation from New Zealand Police, Hon Consul of Fiji Harish Lodhia, former MP Mahesh Bindra and several community and business leaders. Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust’s Chairman Jeet Sachdev spoke about the journey of his organisation and thanked all the attendees for being part of the important day of their life. At the end of programme all guests were served a sumptuous dinner and a large number of senior members present at the function displayed their pleasure by dancing to the beats of Punjabi songs. -TIN Bureau
