Sakhi, meaning “friend” or “companion,” was founded in 2017 with a simple yet meaningful vision: to create a welcoming space where women can connect, support one another, and build lasting friendships. Over the years, Sakhi has grown into a vibrant community of women from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to friendship, wellbeing, and empowerment.
For many women, especially migrants, building social connections in a new country can be challenging. Sakhi provides a safe and inclusive environment where women can come together, share experiences, learn from one another, and celebrate life’s special moments. The group is built on the belief that when women support women, stronger and more connected communities are created.
Through regular social gatherings, wellbeing activities, educational sessions, cultural celebrations, and recreational events, Sakhi encourages women to engage with their community, build confidence, and create meaningful relationships. Whether it is sharing knowledge, promoting awareness, or simply enjoying each other’s company, every activity is designed to foster a sense of belonging.

One of Sakhi’s recent highlights was the highly successful Bridgerton High Tea held at Divine Patisserie, which brought together around 70 women for a memorable morning. The event was filled with laughter, games, reels, endless conversations, delicious food, and wonderful refreshments. The elegant setting and joyful atmosphere created beautiful memories while perfectly reflecting the spirit of Sakhi.
More importantly, the event demonstrated the true purpose of the group – bringing women together, creating meaningful connections, supporting one another, and celebrating life as a community. A special thank you goes to Sahiba Sharma from INZEA Captures for beautifully capturing the magic of the day through her stunning photographs, preserving memories that participants will cherish for years to come.
In addition to social events, Sakhi promotes healthy and active lifestyles. Recently, the group organised its popular “Smash, Serve and Socialise” Badminton Sessions, providing women with an opportunity to stay active, have fun, and build friendships through sport and recreation.
The success of Sakhi is made possible by the dedication of its volunteers. Heartfelt thanks go to Shilpy Sabharwal, Kiran Drall, Khyama Chugh, Swati Bhargava, Sunita Itla, Divya Ojha, Shally Sharma, Manjot Kaur, Lavanya Komal, and Jyoti Parashar for their ongoing support, commitment, and hard work. Their contribution behind the scenes and during events helps create a welcoming and supportive environment where women can thrive.
As Sakhi continues to grow, its mission remains unchanged – to create a strong network of women who uplift, encourage, and celebrate one another. Together, Sakhi members are building friendships, confidence, resilience, and a lasting sense of belonging.
