The New Zealand Telangana Central Association (NZTCA) proudly celebrated the 12th Telangana Formation Day on 1 June 2026 at the New Lynn Community Centre, Auckland. Despite adverse weather conditions, the event witnessed an excellent turnout, reflecting the strong spirit, unity, and commitment of the Telangana community across New Zealand.
The celebrations commenced with tributes to the Telangana martyrs whose sacrifices, determination, and unwavering commitment led to the formation of the State of Telangana on 2 June 2014. The gathering also acknowledged the historic Telangana movement and the leadership that played a significant role in achieving statehood.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Hon. Phil Twyford MP, Helen White MP, Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Auckland, and Mrs. Swagatika Bhuyan, who conveyed their greetings and best wishes to the Telangana community and acknowledged its contribution to New Zealand’s multicultural society.
A special highlight of the evening was the presence of a visiting Telangana delegation led by Mr. Naveen Madishetty and accompanying officials, who were visiting New Zealand in connection with discussions and engagements relating to the recently announced India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) initiatives. Their participation further strengthened the growing relationship between Telangana, India, and New Zealand.
One of the major attractions of the evening was the presentation of the Telangana Excellence Awards, recognising outstanding individuals for their achievements and contributions in community service, education, business, professional excellence, arts, culture, leadership, and social impact. The award recipients were warmly applauded by the audience for their dedication and service to the community.
The cultural programme was a vibrant celebration of diversity and heritage. Traditional Telangana folk and cultural performances showcased the rich traditions, music, and artistic legacy of Telangana. The audience was also treated to outstanding performances by various multicultural groups. A memorable highlight was the performance by talented Māori singer Allana Gold smith whose presentation beautifully reflected the indigenous culture and traditions of Aotearoa New Zealand. Equally impressive was the colourful and energetic Cook Islands cultural dance performance, which received tremendous appreciation from the audience. These cultural exchanges demonstrated the importance of understanding, friendship, and integration among communities and reflected the true spirit of multicultural New Zealand.
The event also featured a Breast Cancer Awareness presentation, promoting the importance of early detection, education, prevention, and community support. The inclusion of health awareness alongside cultural celebrations highlighted NZTCA’s commitment to community wellbeing and social responsibility.
Guests enjoyed a delicious traditional dinner and warm Telangana hospitality, providing an opportunity for community members, dignitaries, delegates, and visitors to connect and celebrate together.
The programme was professionally compered by Mrs. Rani Nalam, whose engaging presentation added warmth and energy to the celebrations. The event was coordinated by Sri Rammohan Danthala, General Secretary of NZTCA, while Sri Kalyan Rao Kasuganti, Founder and President of NZTCA, welcomed the gathering and thanked all dignitaries, sponsors, volunteers, performers, award recipients, community leaders, and supporters for making the celebrations a resounding success.
