On the night of Wednesday 7 May, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh responded to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam by announcing the launch of “Operation Sindoor,” a retaliatory military action aimed at striking back against those responsible for the brutal assault that left 26 people dead, including one Nepali citizen. The operation involved precise strikes on nine identified terrorist camps situated in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), which were believed to be orchestrating attacks against India.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Defence Minister Singh expressed national pride, saying, “Bharat Mata ki Jai” (Victory to Mother India), while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his support, calling for the triumph of India and its armed forces with the slogan, “Jai Hind! Jai Hind Ki Sena!” (Victory to India! Victory to India’s Army!).
The Ministry of Defence further clarified in an official release that the operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature.” The statement made it clear that the strikes did not target any Pakistani military installations or civilian areas, highlighting India’s commitment to avoiding harm to non-combatants and demonstrating restraint despite the aggressive nature of the initial terrorist assault. Instead, the airstrikes were aimed specifically at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, including training camps and hideouts, which had been planning and executing attacks against India.
The government underscored its determination to bring justice to those behind the Pahalgam attack, reinforcing that “Operation Sindoor” was a well-calibrated response designed to eliminate terrorist threats rather than provoke further hostilities with Pakistan. India’s approach was calculated to focus on terror elements without escalating the situation into a broader conflict, showing India’s preference for targeted and responsible military action.

Despite India’s careful and controlled response, Pakistan reacted swiftly by violating the longstanding Ceasefire Agreement. The Pakistan Army initiated artillery fire in the Bhimber Gali area of Jammu and Kashmir, which falls within the Poonch-Rajouri region. In turn, the Indian Army responded appropriately, continuing its policy of measured counteraction. The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) confirmed the violation on X, stating: “Pakistan again violates the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajouri area. The Indian Army is responding appropriately in a calibrated manner.”

In line with India’s resolve, the Indian Army also posted a strong message on social media, reaffirming its determination to safeguard the nation’s security. The Army’s official message read, “Justice is served. Jai Hind!” Earlier, the Army had emphasized its readiness and capability with a post stating, “Ready to strike, trained to win,” highlighting the preparedness and professionalism of India’s military forces in dealing with ongoing challenges in the region.

Following the successful execution of the operation, a detailed briefing on “Operation Sindoor” is scheduled for later today. Officials confirmed that more specifics about the targeted locations, objectives, and the broader strategy of the operation will be disclosed to the public. The briefing will provide further insight into the precision and planning that went into the strikes and how the Indian Armed Forces have effectively disrupted terrorist operations in the region.
The situation remains fluid, and the Indian military’s posture remains vigilant. Despite ongoing challenges and provocations, India’s strategic focus remains on addressing terrorist threats while ensuring that its actions do not result in unwarranted escalation with Pakistan. With tensions high, both sides are continuing to monitor the situation closely, with the Indian Army standing firm in its readiness to defend the country against any further aggression.

India’s retaliatory, “Operation Sindoor” underscores India’s firm resolve to combat terrorism through precise and focused military action, while exercising strategic restraint to prevent the situation from escalating into broader conflict. The operation highlights the nation’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens and ensuring national security within the bounds of measured and responsible defence policy. -TIN Bureau
