He commenced the conference titled “Sustaining New Zealand Communities through Health Benefits of Yoga, Meditation, and Ayurveda” by lighting the lamp in the traditional Hindu way, marking an auspicious beginning. This momentous occasion was significant not only for the Hindu community but also for race relations in New Zealand, symbolising a historic moment of partnership and mutual respect. His presence and support, facilitated by our approach through Hare Puke, an esteemed kaumatua, were instrumental in strengthening cultural ties and advancing interfaith dialogue.

King Tuheitia’s legacy of leadership, his unwavering commitment to his people, and his dedication to building bridges across cultures will be remembered with deep respect and admiration. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and his vision for a unified and inclusive New Zealand will continue to inspire us all.

On behalf of the Hindu community in New Zealand, we extend our deepest sympathies to the King’s whānau, the Kīngitanga, and all those mourning this profound loss. We stand in solidarity with our Māori brothers and sisters during this time of grief.

Hindu Council of New Zealand and the Hindu Organisations, Temples and Associations (HOTA) Forum NZ remains committed to honouring the King’s legacy by continuing our efforts to promote understanding, respect, and cooperation between our communities.

Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou ka ora ai te iwi.

(With your contribution and mine, the people will thrive.)

Ngā manaakitanga,

Dr Guna Magesan JP
