He also claimed that Mamata Banerjee wants to “escape her responsibility” by targeting CBI, adding that it is also the responsibility of the West Bengal government and police to cooperate with the agency.
“To divert the attention of the people of Bengal, they (TMC) are saying that CBI is not doing anything. Mamata Banerjee wants to escape her responsibility by targeting CBI… I want to tell her that it is also the responsibility of the West Bengal government and police to cooperate with CBI or point out its shortcomings with facts,” Chowdhury said.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury visited RG Kar Medical College to meet the medical students who are protesting against the rape-murder of a resident doctor.
“I thought it is important to express my sympathy and support to these protesting doctors. I’m not here as a politician but as a person,” he told reporters.
The brutal rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked a wave of protests in West Bengal and other parts of the country.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
Doctors have been holding protests in different states demanding justice for the victim and enhanced security laws for healthcare professionals.
The case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation from the local police following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, at the hospital, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The incident has triggered a war of words between the BJP, with the latter demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.-ANI
