Celebrations have taken place in New Zealand, and in Sikh community across the world, including in India and Pakistan to mark the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak – the founder of Sikhism.
The day also known as Parkash Parv, fell on November 12, this year, and was marked by huge gatherings at Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Christchurch, and Gurudwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib Takanini and Otahuhu in Auckland.
Indian missions and posts around the world have also organised a large number of activities including exhibitions, conferences, screening of films, as well as special events such as planting saplings, renditions of kirtans, and blood donation camps. UNESCO is also partnering with Indian Government in translations of Guru Nanak’s teachings in many international languages for wider dissemination and outreach.
