The incident happened at Sona Sansaar jewelry shop in the Tulja Centre on Stoddard Rd. A security guard was hit on the head with a hammer during the attempted robbery. Thankfully, his injuries were minor, and he was checked by an ambulance.

Police confirmed that no guns were seen, and no shots were fired. They are now working to identify and find the offenders.

Harish Lodhia, the store owner, confirmed that the robbers tried to smash their way in, but the security grille stopped them. “They didn’t get away with anything,” he said. Although the security guard was taken to the hospital, Lodhia assured that he would be okay. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover the damages.

A nearby shop owner saw the security guard running away after being struck and chased by one of the armed offenders.

Sunny Kaushal, chair of the Dairy & Business Owners Group and president of the Crime Prevention Group, highlighted the

severity of the attack on the security guard. “He has been taken to the hospital,” Kaushal said, adding that the store owners were very shaken.

Kaushal emphasized that such crimes are becoming too common, with offenders showing no fear of the law. “New Zealand society is fast becoming a violent society, and we need to stop it,” he said. He urged for swift police action and a justice system that holds offenders accountable to send a strong message against such crimes
