The New Zealand Telangana Central Association (NZTCA) 10th anniversary of Telangana Formation Day on Sunday 2 June with an event that will be remembered for years to come. Held at the Mt Albert War Memorial Hall, the celebration attracted a remarkable turnout of nearly 800 attendees who gathered to honour the martyrs and celebrate the achievements of the Telangana community.
The event featured the participation of approximately 50 community leaders, showcasing the unity and solidarity of the Indian diaspora in New Zealand. The evening was marked by heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of the Telangana movement, inspiring speeches, and the presentation of prestigious awards.
Founder of NZTCA, Kalyan Rao Kasuganti, delivered a powerful speech highlighting the significance of Telangana’s formation and the progress made over the past decade. He praised former Chief Minister Sri K. Chandrashekar Rao for being a torchbearer for the Telangana agitation and for his impactful 10-year rule, which left a significant mark on the state’s development. Kalyan also extended his best wishes to the new government, expressing hope for continued progress and prosperity.


Political leaders Karen Chhour, Minister; Phil Twyford, MP for Te Atatū; Michael Wood, Former Minister; and Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Former MP, attended the event. They gave good wishes and presented awards to community members, adding to the event’s prestige.
One of the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the Community Inspire Award to Hon. Consul Bhav Dhillon for his exemplary services to the community and efforts in uniting the Indian diaspora. His acceptance speech received a standing ovation, underscoring the profound impact of his contributions.
The event was graced by numerous distinguished guests, including: Minister Karen Chhour, former Minister Michael Wood, Hon Consul Bhav Dhillon, Narendra Bhana, Prakash Biradar, Dhansukh Lal, Puspa Lekinwala, Champa Patel, Jeet Suchdev, Vai Ravindran, Sunil Kaushal, Roy Kaunds, Shivani Arora, Nilima Venkat, Jyoti Parashar, Chetan Joshi and Harshad Patel.
The event was further enriched by wonderful dance performances delivered by various groups, which captivated the audience and added to the festive atmosphere. Everyone praised the food, and special credit goes to Ram Mohan Danthala, who took utmost care in the preparation and serving responsibilities, ensuring a delightful culinary experience for all attendees.
Many members of the community who attended the event praised the organizers for their exceptional capabilities. The NZTCA team received great applause from all around for their meticulous planning and execution, which contributed to the event’s overwhelming success.
The Decade Celebration of Telangana Formation Day, organized by NZTCA, was a resounding success, demonstrating exceptional hospitality and community spirit. The event’s success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the organizing committee and the support of the broader community. It will be cherished and remembered as a significant milestone in the celebration of Telangana’s rich cultural heritage and achievements.
Several cultural performances were presented by various dance groups and young artists much to delight of the audiences. All guests were served sumptuous south Indian dinner at the end of the programme. -TIN Bureau
