Brahmin Samaj (Gujarati) New Zealand reinforced its position as a vibrant custodian of cultural and spiritual traditions with a deeply engaging celebration of Parshuram Jayanti—an event that was as much about devotion as it was about educating and empowering the next generation.
Held at Balmoral Community Centre, the program marked the birth anniversary of Parashurama, drawing a strong turnout of community leaders, families, and youth. The gathering created a dynamic confluence of devotion, knowledge, and tradition, with a clear focus on transmitting scriptural wisdom in a way that resonates with younger minds.

Children at the Forefront of Knowledge Sharing. The defining feature of the event was the confident and well-prepared participation of children, who took centre stage to present complex scriptural concepts with clarity and poise. Their sessions on the Sapta Chiranjeevi introduced the audience to seven immortal figures—Ashwatthama, Hanuman, Mahabali, Vyasa, Vibhishana, Kripacharya, and Markandeya—highlighting their significance and relevance even in contemporary life.
Equally compelling were the presentations on the Sapta Rishis, where children connected ancient teachings with present-day challenges, demonstrating not just memorization but genuine understanding. Their delivery reflected structured training and discipline, guided by Himalaya Shukla, whose mentorship in public speaking and stage confidence was clear.

The event also featured a series of thought-provoking talks by community speakers who seamlessly linked traditional philosophy with modern-day application. Binal Nagar drew attention to Parashurama’s unique balance of shastra (weapons) and shastra (scriptures), framing it as a model for leadership that blends strength with wisdom. Raj Shukla addressed the psychological dimension of life, emphasizing the importance of maintaining equilibrium between happiness and adversity.
Chintan Bhai Choksi offered a deeper exploration of the Sapta Chiranjeevi, interpreting their symbolic value in addressing the ethical and moral dilemmas of today’s world. Meanwhile, Nilay Jani spotlighted Hanuman as the ultimate embodiment of humility, intelligence, and selfless service, urging the audience to internalize these virtues without ego.
A Strong Message on Unity and Cultural Continuity
Adding spiritual depth to the occasion, special guest Neeraj Bhai from Manurewa Shiva Temple delivered blessings and a powerful message on social cohesion. He underscored that the life of Parashurama was rooted in justice, dharma, and discipline, and that preserving these values requires a united and organized community. His message was clear: cultural survival depends not just on belief, but on collective responsibility and action.
The celebration concluded on a spiritually uplifting note with a collective recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa, led under Neeraj Bhai’s guidance. The children’s synchronized and precise chanting created an atmosphere charged with devotion and cultural pride, reinforcing the importance of nurturing such values early in life.
The event wrapped up with the distribution of prizes and certificates recognizing the children’s dedication and excellence, followed by a Maha Prasad sponsored by Foram bhai Rawal.
More than just a religious gathering, the celebration stood as a firm statement of intent—preserving spiritual heritage while shaping articulate, confident, and culturally rooted future leaders is not just an aspiration for the community, but an ongoing reality. – TIN Bureau
