DISHA NZ Charitable Trust hosted a vibrant Holi Milan celebration on Saturday, 7 March at the New Lynn Community Centre, in collaboration with the New Lynn Community Hub. The weekend event was lively, colourful, and enjoyable, bringing together seniors, families, and community members for a memorable afternoon filled with music, food, culture, and connection. As a free family event, Holi Milan was very well attended and created a joyful atmosphere that truly reflected the spirit of togetherness and celebration.

Attendees enjoyed a lively variety of market stalls, food stalls, games, and cultural performances throughout the afternoon. Market vendors displayed handmade crafts, clothing, and unique cultural items, while food stalls offered a delicious range of traditional snacks and sweets. Families and children enthusiastically participated in games and activities, adding energy and excitement to the festive atmosphere.

The entertainment program showcased the rich diversity of the community. Cultural performances included lively Indian dance presentations as well as a beautiful Chinese cultural performance, which was warmly received by the audience. It was heartening to see Chinese performers dancing to Indian songs, creating a special moment of cultural harmony that had many people clapping and dancing along. The performances highlighted the multicultural spirit that DISHA proudly celebrates through its community initiatives.
A special highlight of the day was the participation of Prana Physiotherapy, who organised fun and engaging activities focused on strength, balance, and movement. These interactive sessions encouraged seniors to stay active while enjoying themselves in a supportive and social environment.

Unlike traditional Holi celebrations where colours are thrown, this Holi Milan gathering focused on the colours of joy, culture, and community. The colourful clothing, vibrant decorations, music, and laughter filled the venue with warmth and happiness, creating an opportunity for people of all ages to connect and celebrate together.

Events like Holi Milan reflect DISHA NZ’s commitment to supporting the wellbeing of ethnic communities, particularly migrant seniors who benefit from opportunities to socialise, stay active, and remain connected to their culture and community.Tin Bureau
