The spirit of sisterhood and community shone brightly on Saturday, 12th April at the Sakhi Autumn Catchup, hosted at Balmoral Community Hall. Women from across Auckland came together to share laughter, delicious food, and meaningful conversations in an atmosphere filled with warmth and positivity.
Sakhi, founded in 2017, was created to support and empower women through connection, friendship, and collaboration. Over the years, it has grown into a vibrant community that uplifts one another, celebrates culture, and fosters both personal and professional growth.
The recent event was no exception. From exciting games like Housie, spot prizes, and raffles to a hearty lunch, the gathering was a joyful mix of fun and purpose. Behind the scenes, a team of passionate volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the day ran smoothly and every Sakhi felt welcomed.
A special highlight was a powerful message from Mithila Gadkari of Asian Family Services, who spoke about addiction prevention and shared valuable information on how and where to seek help. She also distributed pens imprinted with helpline details — a small yet impactful gesture that left a lasting impression.
Founder Jyoti Parashar shared, “It was heartwarming to see new Sakhis connecting with long-time members. Events like these remind us of the power of community — to guide, uplift, and stand by one another.”
Lavanya Komal, a long-standing pillar of Sakhi and co-organiser, added, “Sakhi is a safe space where every woman can be herself. Watching everyone laugh, dance, and open up was truly special. These moments of joy and connection are what Sakhi is all about.”
Jyoti and Lavanya extended heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteer team: Sunitha Itla, Amita Bansal, Priya Ramrakhiani, Nadya Poonawala, Shilpy Sabharwal, Divya Ojha, Khyama Chugh, Maulee Bhatt, and Swati Bhargava. “We couldn’t have done it without their energy, creativity, and wholehearted support,” they added.
Sakhi also gratefully acknowledges the generous support from our sponsors and well-wishers:
Tulip Financial Services, One Zero Eight, Falas Sweets & Snacks, Touch and Glow, Vastrank, Swada Mushroom Biryani, Shubh Takeaway, Mystic Kitchens, and Sri Vishnu Enterprises — thank you for contributing to the success of this special day.
With its guiding motto — “Together, we grow and support each other” — Sakhi continues to shine as a beacon of connection, empowerment, and unwavering support for women in our communities.
