Udaan organised its first intensive workshop for the year 2025 on Polishing your CVs, Cover Letter, Interview and using Artificial Intelligence, held at Balmoral Community Centre, Sandringham, Auckland. The event brought together over 20 participants from diverse backgrounds, each eager to enhance their career prospects and understand how to navigate the New Zealand job market more effectively.
The primary objective of the workshop was to equip attendees with practical tools and insights on creating compelling CVs and cover letters, mastering interviews, and leveraging AI for job applications.
The workshop was led by Monita Singh, an experienced HR and recruitment professional with over 20 years of experience across 10 countries. Monita was supported by our Udaan team members, who helped ensure the session was interactive and impactful.
The session began with an icebreaker activity of ‘introducing your peer’ which helped participants to get to know one another while observing and reflecting on communication styles. This activity not only eased the group into the workshop but also helped them build a professional network in a friendly, non-judgmental space.
The workshop offered participants a comprehensive overview of what makes a strong job application, including practical tips on tailoring CVs, crafting compelling cover letters, and preparing for interviews. Emphasis was placed on understanding employer expectations and aligning personal strengths with job requirements.
The session also introduced participants to professional tools like LinkedIn and explored how digital platforms can support career development. A key highlight was the discussion around using Artificial Intelligence in the job search process—demonstrating how AI tools can assist with application preparation while also reinforcing the importance of maintaining authenticity and a personal touch.
At the end of the workshop, we did a quick survey form, of which 60% felt very confident and 40% somewhat confident in applying for jobs and interviews post this workshop. It is through valuable suggestions from participants that we improve on our systems and processes.
Udaan acknowledges the invaluable support from Bhartiya Mandir and extends heartfelt thanks to all the participants who showed great commitment by attending the workshop despite Auckland’s unpredictable weather.
Long-time volunteer and participant Ayushi shared: “Udaan has a safe space for new migrants or existing ones to come together to help each other. Potentially this time we had consultant who is an HR in a renowned company hence her experience and personal opinions on CV, cover letter and interviews made everyone understand better and had direct chance to ask questions in a non-judgemental environment. The session was very interactive, which includes demo interviews. Udaan is also a networking platform. Overall, it is a chance to know more about NZ job market.”
