Auckland Man Jailed for Secretly Filming Women and Girls – A ‘Grotesque Betrayal’

For nearly a decade, Micah Fala seemed like just another guy. But behind closed doors, he was living a disturbing double life—secretly filming 22 women and girls, some as young as 12, using hidden cameras.

Today, he faced the consequences.

Wearing a plain grey T-shirt and shorts, the Auckland supply chain manager stood in the dock as victims spoke about the devastating impact of his crimes. The sense of violation, betrayal, and trauma was evident in every word they shared.

A Deep Breach of Trust

Fala’s crimes weren’t just a moment of weakness. They were meticulously planned and carried out over years. Using tiny spy cameras he bought online, he filmed his victims in bathrooms and bedrooms—capturing their most private moments without their knowledge.

Authorities later uncovered a massive collection of videos and photos, each stored under individual victim folders. Many of the victims were filmed while showering, using the toilet, or getting dressed—things no one should ever have to worry about being recorded doing.

‘A Betrayal Beyond Words’ – Victims Speak Out

One woman stood before the court, bravely sharing her pain.

“I felt anger, sadness, shock, guilt, and disgust. He took something from all of us that we can never get back.”

Another described seeing the footage for the first time as “a smack in the face with a steel baseball bat.”

For a mother whose children were among the victims, the pain was unbearable.

“I cry every single day. What he did to my child has destroyed me.”

Her daughter, who was only 11 or 12 at the time, was filmed without her knowledge. In a heartbreaking statement, she said Fala took something from her that can never be returned.

“He ruined every memory I’ve made with my family.”

A Chilling Level of Deception

Fala’s actions went far beyond hidden cameras. He hacked into some victims’ personal devices, stealing private photos and videos. Police also found over 100 images of women and girls’ underwear stored on his devices.

And then, there was something even more disturbing.

One video showed Fala stroking the feet of a sleeping 9-year-old girl—one of three separate recordings like this.

Judge Kevin Glubb, who presided over the case, made it clear how deeply twisted and predatory Fala’s actions were.

“Your depravity and perversion knew no bounds. You robbed these women and girls of their sense of safety and peace.”

‘I Couldn’t See the Monster in Front of Me’

One woman, still grappling with the betrayal, admitted:

“If I couldn’t see the monster standing in front of me, what does that say about my instincts?”

She urged the court not to show Fala any leniency, describing his crimes as a “grotesque violation.”

A Sentence That Feels Too Short

Fala was sentenced to four years in prison, with mandatory registration on the child sex offender list. The judge also ordered that all of his devices be destroyed to prevent any further harm.

But for many of his victims, four years doesn’t feel like enough.

“I’m terrified of what happens when he gets out,” one woman admitted.

‘Hidden Cameras Are Everywhere’ – A Mother’s Warning

For one mother, the nightmare isn’t over.

“Even now, I can’t take a shower without looking over my shoulder. The fear never leaves.”

She warns others to stay vigilant because the truth is these hidden cameras are easy to buy and even easier to hide.

“You can get them online for as little as $60. Most people don’t even realize they’re being watched.”

Protecting Ourselves in a Digital Age

Detective Inspector Scott Beard emphasized that cases like this aren’t as rare as we’d hope.

“Technology has made it easier for predators to operate in the shadows. We all need to be aware and take precautions.”
