Bharatiya Mandir has been actively involved in promoting community welfare for past few
decades. In our latest initiative, Yuva Samvardhan, we focus on children aged 10 years and above, aiming to provide them with a comprehensive practice that nurtures their physical, emotional, and mental growth. Through engaging activities, we aim to help children develop in a fun, accessible, and well-rounded way.
Key Activities of Yuva Samvardhan
1. Fun Yoga Sessions thru teachings of Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji
Yoga for children is a dynamic and enjoyable way to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and emotional balance. Our sessions are designed to help children develop strength, flexibility, focus, and mindfulness.
We incorporate creative games, storytelling, and playful postures that spark children’s imagination, while imparting the benefits of traditional yoga practices. Additionally, children will learn valuable tools for managing stress and emotions.
2. Interactive Outdoor Games
Outdoor games are a great way to engage children in physical activity, teamwork, and fun. These games also serve as a means of promoting cultural learning. India’s rich tradition of interactive outdoor games is passed down through generations and often involves social interaction, strategy, and physical activity, making them perfect for fostering a sense of cooperation and enjoyment.
3. Public Speaking
Public speaking is an essential skill that helps children build confidence,
communication skills, and leadership abilities. Through interactive and fun methods, we help children develop eective speaking and presentation skills, boosting their selfesteem and ability to express themselves.
4. Social Skills and Cooperation
Group activities are designed to promote teamwork, cooperation, and respect,
strengthening social bonds and fostering empathy among children. These interactions are critical for emotional growth and help children learn the value of collaboration and
support.
5. Workshops and Skill Development
Our workshops are aimed at enhancing cognitive, social, emotional, and practical
skills in children. These hands-on sessions provide a holistic learning experience,
helping children develop valuable life skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
6. Community Outreach
Community outreach activities provide children with the opportunity to engage in projects that foster a sense of social responsibility and empathy. By helping others, children can develop a deep understanding of social issues, empowering them to make a positive difference in their communities.
Addressing the Need for Children’s Well-Being in New Zealand
Recent statistics highlight concerning trends regarding children’s health and well-being in NewZealand, underscoring the importance of initiatives like Yuva Samvardhan. These programs are critical in promoting physical, mental, and emotional health among children.
 Physical Activity:
According to the Health and Wellbeing of Children and Young People in New Zealand
report, nearly 30% of children aged 2-14 are overweight or obese, which poses significant long-term health risks. Furthermore, only 50% of children aged 5-14 meet the recommended daily activity levels, indicating the need for more engaging and accessible physical activity programs to address this issue.
 Mental Health:
The Youth 19 Survey (2019) revealed that 1 in 5 children in New Zealand experience
some form of mental distress, with anxiety, depression, and stress being the most common issues. Yoga, with its focus on mindfulness, emotional regulation, and stress reduction, has been proven to be an eective tool for addressing these mental health concerns.
 Social Skills and Well-Being:
A study by Te Rau Matatini found that a lack of social connection and positive coping mechanisms can contribute to lower overall well-being in children. Yoga programs, emphasizing teamwork, communication, and mindfulness, provide a safe space for children to build these crucial life skills.
These statistics demonstrate a pressing need for initiatives that not only promote physical health but also enhance mental and emotional resilience. Yuva Samvardhan aims to address these gaps by oering a holistic approach to children’s development, empowering them to lead
healthy, fulfilling lives.
