The Indian community in Auckland has something exciting to look forward to—the newly established Consulate General of India is preparing to launch full-fledged operations soon. While the Consulate is currently functioning from its temporary location at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre, 145 New North Road, Eden Terrace, it is expected to shift to its permanent office on Queen Street in Auckland’s Central Business District (CBD) and begin full operations by May this year.https://www.cgiauckland.gov.in/

This development comes as a significant step toward improving consular services for the growing Indian diaspora in New Zealand. The Consulate aims to make consular processes more efficient, ensuring timely assistance for those in need of services such as passport renewals, attestations, and other document-related procedures.

At a recent press briefing, Consul General Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi shared insights into the Consulate’s plans. He emphasized that the goal is to provide hassle-free and streamlined services to the Indian community. “We are committed to starting full operations as soon as possible and ensuring that the community receives efficient and accessible services,” he said.

Dr. Sethi, along with Consul Sanjeev Kumar, highlighted the importance of scheduling appointments online for a smoother experience. They urged community members to visit the Consulate’s official website, cgiauckland.gov.in, to book their appointments in advance.

“To avoid long wait times and ensure faster service, we strongly recommend that people schedule their appointments online. Those with prior bookings will be given priority,” explained Kumar.

The new appointment system is designed to make consular visits more organized and efficient. It will help the Consulate manage the flow of applicants and reduce unnecessary delays.

Support for Those Facing Difficulties

Recognizing that not everyone is comfortable with digital systems, particularly elderly individuals, the Consulate is also working on alternative support options.

“We understand that some community members, especially senior citizens, may find it difficult to book appointments online. We are working on ways to assist them directly so they can access services without hassle,” assured Dr. Sethi.

The Consulate also encourages family members and community organizations to step forward and help those who may struggle with the online system.

OCI and Visa Services Coming Soon

One of the major anticipated services at the new Consulate is the processing of OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) applications and visas. However, these services have not yet started due to technical challenges.

“The required software for OCI and visa processing is not yet available, which is why we have been unable to launch these services. However, things are progressing well, and we hope to have everything in place by the end of the month,” said Kumar.

With these planned upgrades, the Indian community in Auckland can look forward to a more accessible and efficient consular experience. The Consulate remains committed to supporting Indians in New Zealand and strengthening ties between the two nations. -TIN Bureau
