Ever since Narendra Modi’s government returned to power on June 4 for an unprecedented third consecutive term, India’s opposition parties and their leaders have been thrown into turmoil. Many had hoped to disrupt Modi’s long-standing rule and prevent his continued influence on India’s direction. This disappointment extends beyond India’s borders as certain global powers and anti-Modi forces had planned to disrupt his re-election, to curb India’s rapid rise. Even six months after the formation of the National Democratic Alliance government, these groups remain unaccepting of Modi’s leadership, reportedly focusing on attempts to destabilize the government by stirring unrest both within India and in the Indian diaspora communities abroad.
The prominent forces behind the anti-India, anti-Modi campaigns include the United States, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, and a few other Western nations. These countries are wary of India’s rapid growth under Modi’s leadership, seeing it as a potential threat to their positions in the global power hierarchy. Over the last decade, India has achieved remarkable economic development, and Modi’s leadership has helped establish India as a formidable force on the world stage. With Modi at the helm, these nations increasingly fear that India’s influence will only grow, challenging their status in the global order.
Modi, meanwhile, has signalled he will govern even more assertively in his third term, despite his party not securing a full majority independently. Before his re-election, he announced that his government would make hard, necessary reforms that previous administrations avoided due to political reasons. For years, past governments, especially Congress-led ones, sought to appease certain communities rather than make decisions for the broader benefit of the country. This approach not only hampered India’s development but also conflicted with democratic principles of equality. Modi’s administration has embraced a stance that all citizens deserve equal treatment, without any group receiving undue benefits. This shift has disrupted old practices and unsettled those who had grown accustomed to the privileges they provided.
India’s political system and bureaucracy, long plagued by corruption and inefficiency, created a frustrating web of red tape that affected citizens’ daily lives. Under the Congress-led government’s extensive tenure, this culture of corruption permeated all levels of society, with bribery becoming a norm and shortcuts often the only way to navigate the system. Modi government had to tackle this deeply rooted issue, facing opposition not only from corrupt elements within the government but also from citizens who had accepted corruption as part of daily life. For those who benefited from these practices, Modi represents a challenge, as he opposes such shortcuts and instead exemplifies hard work, transparency, and discipline—qualities that have earned him respect as one of India’s most dedicated leaders.
Modi’s vision for India’s future requires significant reforms to strengthen the nation as a global power. His government is determined to take bold decisions that may cause discomfort among political factions and vested interests. Intelligence reports suggest certain groups are conspiring to create unrest to counter these reforms. Despite past failures, these forces remain resolute, reportedly willing to go to great lengths to destabilise Modi. Unfortunately, this kind of unrest often impacts ordinary citizens the most, who bear the brunt of instability and economic challenges.
This period presents challenges not only within India but also for Indian communities abroad. As Modi’s government faces both domestic and international resistance, the safety and security of Indian citizens living overseas could be at risk. Anti-Modi forces are attempting to create divisions among Indian diaspora communities, inciting conflict beyond India’s borders. However, in the face of these challenges, it is essential for Indian people to demonstrate unity and resilience. By standing together and supporting the government’s efforts, citizens can secure India’s future and signal to the world that they value national progress over divisive agendas.
As Modi advances through his third term, his government will likely encounter sustained opposition from both domestic and international actors. This is an opportunity for Indians everywhere to affirm their dedication to the nation’s stability and growth. Standing united, the people and the government can ensure that India’s trajectory remains strong and steady, safeguarding the country’s future from forces that would seek to undermine it. -Yugal Parashar
