Enraged, he confronted Singh, who was actually escorting the boy to the man’s car. Ignoring his ex-partner’s advice, the man returned to the park after dropping off his son, determined to confront Singh.
Upon finding Singh, the man grabbed him by the collar, accused him of attempted abduction, and delivered a forceful punch to Singh’s jaw. Singh fell, hitting his head on the pavement. The man, believing Singh was dead, left the scene and confessed the attack to his ex-partner and flatmate.
Singh was taken to Christchurch Hospital with a skull fracture and internal bleeding. He never regained consciousness and died after being taken off life support on April 9.
The man, who claimed he acted out of fear for his son’s safety, is set to be sentenced for manslaughter on October 22.
