Viscount School, Mangere gets new Principal!
Dr Deanna Johnston is the appointed Principal of Viscount School, starting in the new School year.
Dr Johnston has been in the education field for 35 years. She is an experienced Principal, having led four culturally rich Year 1-8 Schools, including a School in Mangere. Deanna brings with her, educational leadership experience across a range of diverse settings and in a range of roles.
Dr Johnston brings her passion for and expertise in Curriculum, teaching/learning, leadership, instructional mentoring, restorative practice and visual arts. Deanna’s academic studies and practical application focus on high-quality relationships and high-quality teaching/learning. She has recently revitalised her studies in Te Reo Māori.
Dr Johnston is proud of her Samoan and Pākehā cultural heritage. Her husband is also a Principal and they have two sons. Deanna is Presiding Member of a South Auckland College. She is proud of her large family (one of her brothers is also a Principal) and her mother who has always held high expectations and to value education. In her spare time, Deanna loves gardening, family traditions, walking, music, Lego and Transformers. Dr Johnston comments she is delighted to have joined Viscount School and be part of a vibrant community. Staff and students have launched into a new term and are excited about the learning journey ahead.
