It has been over a month since the war broke between Russia and the Ukraine, which is being supported by NATO countries but there seems no end in the sight. While it may be business as usual in other parts of the world and many people blissfully be unaware of the miseries and sufferings of the people of Ukraine, situation in the war zone is critically dangerous and slowly creeping towards the possible atomic disaster.

Both sides are claiming to do destruction and harm to each other and destroying miliary installations of both sides. The fact remains that Russia is a superior power between the two countries and the attacks being done from Russian side are more lethal and ruthless as compared to Ukraine’s. Thousands of innocent civilians have already been killed and over four million Ukrainians have been displaced. They have fled the country and taking refuge in neighbouring Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Belarus, Romania and even in Russia. This the biggest human crisis in the history after World War II. NATO countries are rallying support in favour of Ukraine and assisting the war-torn country with supply of essential commodities and emergency items. Many countries including New Zealand have opened doors exclusively for Ukrainian refugees, who want to go to a safe place. Peace is the need of the hour, but it is the most expensive commodity under the circumstances.

There is yet another war that is being carried out by USA and its NATO ally countries, and this is the war of the narratives. This war is doing more harm to Ukraine and its people then the real war since it does not let the truth come out to the world. The entire US and the western media is busy painting Russia and its President Putin a villain in this war which is not true. If anyone can be blamed for the war between two countries, then its USA and its allies. Russia appealed and later warned USA and other NATO countries, many times over the years about not messing around with the former USSR countries. USA, time and again made false promises to Russia that it will not add any new country to the NATO alliance but kept breaking its commitment every time. Ukraine was the flashpoint since it borders Russia and Putin never wanted to see US armed forces on its borders camouflaging as NATO forces. So basically, it’s USA, challenging Russian sovereignty time and again to prove its superiority over Russia. United State broke its promises and assurances to Russia several times over past couple of decades. What should anyone expect in retaliation from the world’s other superpower if it’s being poked and being cheated persistently.

If we look at the history of USA of past 50 years, one will find US hand in every conflict across the globe. Starting from Vietnam to Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan just to name a few, it’s always American war tactics that has led to destruction in different parts of the world. USA is the self-appointed guardian of the world and anyone not accepting this authority becomes enemy of USA. One should feel sorry for Ukraine because the poor country has been made a scapegoat in this war. None of the NATO countries are fighting a direct war with Russia but only providing logistic support to Ukraine. The war of narratives, of course in in full steam and a lot of noise is being made as if US or any of the NATO countries are fighting this war.

Now only time will tell when this war stops because at this point it’s not important who won or who lost but when will it stop. it’s crucial to stop this conflict now before it escalates to a level when world may only regret for not acting fast to make the truce. I think India is doing the right thing by not taking sides and appealing for peaceful dialogue. Its not wise to take sides in any war because this will only escalate it, all efforts should only be made to stop the war. – Yugal Parashar
