The political agitation against the 3 new Farm Bills that ran for the longest period of time in the history of independent India, should ideally have come to an end by now. The Prime Minister of India never wanted to withdraw these reform bills as he and his government knew that they were brought only for the good of farmers, but the agitation stretched beyond the point of government’s imagination.

Several anti-India forces and foreign elements backing and funding this agitation made sure that this agitation continues till the time they can achieve their real goals of creating mayhem and anarchy in India under the garb of Farmers agitation. It is believed that government had received some very sensitive information from several sources including from now ousted, former Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amrinder Singh about the real motives behind this agitation. On sensing the seriousness about the safety and security of the country government decided to put aside all the conventions and hurriedly declared to withdraw the bills. The bills were withdrawn on the first day the current Parliament session and passed by both houses on the same day to complete the withdrawal. Those who know PM Modi and his style of functioning never expected this back tracking from him. The agitators were also very sure that their agitation will continue for a much longer time and the anti-India forces will succeed in their motives in helping India’s enemy countries to break India. By making a sudden announcement to withdraw the Farm Bills, Narendra Modi destroyed the plans of anti-India forces in a single stroke. These forces are flabbergasted and confused and do not know what to do to carry on the agitation so their real goals can be achieved. While most factions of the agitating Farmers have either gone back or have decided to go back and are happy with government’s decision, but some professional agitators feel out of work now. They are now trying to find lame excuses and adding new demands in a bid to continue their agitation so their real goals can be achieved.

Anyone watching all these developments sitting away from India can easily understand about how lenient this government has been towards most agitations happened in recent times. In the past most of such agitations had always ended abruptly, meeting violent end. In case of the current Farmers agitation this government has set a new precedence of tolerance where despite of all sorts of provocation, violence and some grave anti-national pursuits by the agitators, government never resorted to use of force. Actually, the government’s inaction by not reacting to the violent agitators’ antics, frustrated millions of peace loving and law-abiding Indians. Since the supposedly bone of contention, 3 Farm bills have now been withdrawn, so one of new demands added by the so-called farmer’s leaders is to pay compensation to 700 people who died during this agitation. No one knows where these numbers came from, when not even one person was killed in any action taken by the government. On the other hand, while maintaining order, hundreds of police personal were seriously injured by the violent agitators. The yearlong agitation has cost the country’s economy to billions of rupees apart from the inconvenience it created to millions of people of Delhi and the surrounding states. I think the agitators are treating government’s leniency as its weakness and waiting for some high-handed treatment, so they get an opportunity to blame the government of atrocities.

So far Modi government has given all sort of freedom and opportunities to these agitators since this government genuinely cares for the poor and farmers but any unscrupulous elements need to be mindful that government is mightier than what they may think and if it decides to give them back in the same coin they will have nowhere to go. -Yugal Parashar
