Judith Collins, the National Party’s leader, used a speech to party members to announce a shift in focus away from race matters and towards seven “major challenges” confronting New Zealanders. Collins rallied the crowd at National party’s annual convention, emphasising that the next election was approaching quickly.

“We only have a little more than two years. It’s an election that National can easily win if it concentrates on issues that important to New Zealanders.” Collins spoke at a series of regional conventions in the run-up to the AGM this weekend, accusing the government of sneaking in a “separatist” agenda. The party has launched a new campaign, “Demand the Debate,” to draw attention to the He Puapua report on alleged “secret “efforts to change New Zealand’s name to Aotearoa.

Collins, on the other hand, made only fleeting mention of the He Puapua report. Instead, she outlined the party’s strategy for the next two years, emphasising the importance of “seven solutions”.  Collins stated that National would continue its “demand the debate” campaign, focusing on raising incomes, advancing technology, and constructing homes. National party would also push for solutions in the areas of crime, education, healthcare, and immigration. National party has a chance to win the next election, but it must focus on issues that important to New Zealanders, according to Collins.

“We also need to demonstrate that National is the party that can get things done, that has solutions to New Zealand’s major problems.”

· It’s an election that National Party can easily win if it concentrates on the issues that important to New Zealanders, especially those who deserve more.

· “You know, Labour has failed to deliver in practically every area that matters to New Zealand and New Zealanders. They’re rushing through reforms and making announcements that weren’t part of their campaign platform.

· “Labour is also untrustworthy when it comes to taxes. They said no additional taxes would be imposed before the last election, but then proposed a ute tax following.”

· Collins stated that National would continue to “demand the debate,” referring to the party’s recent campaign. The campaign urges the government to offer New Zealanders more say on issues that Labour did not campaign on ahead of the 2020 election.
