The Anviro Group, led by environment enthusiast Sudesh Mittal had a get together of environment lovers and many keen kitchen gardeners at Bharatiya Mandir at Balmoral in Sandringham on Tuesday, 6th July. Around 45 people took part in the 3-hour long event.

Anviro Group has been working closely with Bharatiya Mandir for last few years where Mandir has provided a garden patch to the group to develop and grow kitchen garden by composting and recycling Mandir organic waste. The different environmental groups from across Auckland took part in the workshop and shared their experiences, stories, the challenges they face and throwing many other queries regarding gardening.

Ellen Schinder, a keen gardener herself imparted her experience and information about grafting of the trees and planted two grafted plants applying espalier method of training at the garden patch of Bharatiya Mandir. The garden patch and organic composting is part of the Auckland Council’s wider organic sustainability program to achieve zero carbon emission goal by 2025.

The visiting group was taken to a tour of Mandir, and Mandir’s kitchen garden and the visitors were very appreciative of the efforts being made by Bhartiya Mandir towards sustainable environment. Bharatiya Mandir President Ambrish Gupta welcomed the group of people to Mandir, and all the guest enjoyed the hospitality offered by the Mandir Management. -TIN Bureau
