The local community came out in strong support of the family of Janesh Prasad, victim of south Auckland tornado whose funeral was held on Wednesday 23rd June, at Wiri in Auckland. Janesh Prasad died while he was working at the South Auckland Freight Hub on Saturday 19th June when got picked up by a tornado.

The entire community and Fiji Indian community in particular, are shocked and dumbfounded at the news of tragedy and are thinking of the young wife and children of the victim. A strong crowd of several hundred people attended his funeral. Prasad’s funeral was held at Ann’s Funeral Home at Wiri and its Principal, Sam Achary who also hails from Fiji, announced that Janesh’s funeral will be done free of cost.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern expressed her profound grief at the loss of life and conveyed her heartfelt sympathy for the young family of the victim. Prasad leaves behind his wife Mala Archana and two young children Ashley 13 and Jesh 10. The ‘givealittle’ page has raised around 100k for the family of Prasad so far and some other community help is also expected to pour in from different quarters.
