The Indian News-weekly, will turn two years when the copy of this edition will reach in your hands. What an incredible journey it has been all through this period! Starting with a team of novices, where most team members having little to no print media exposure, to reaching to become the first and so far, the only Indian newspaper, to be a member of coveted New Zealand Media Council, is an incredible feat by all means.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Actually, no exposure or little experience of the team, turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as everyone involved contributed with their original, innovative and fresh ideas. This shortcoming of the team helped us to create a non-orthodox image of our newspaper, away from the textbooks. Two years later, we are still the youngest kid on the block of multicultural media platform of New Zealand. Despite of all the initial hiccups, and ups and downs during this journey, we have arrived as the most trusted Indian Media group. We have always tried to report news, views, success, struggles and celebrations of sub-continent and multicultural communities without any fear or favour. Though even our best efforts, sometime may have not been enough to please all or make everyone happy. We as humans keep making mistakes and learn from it. So, as team of a new media group, we are learning from every issue and evolving, as time goes by.
I am sure our regular readers would remember that two years back, we started as a fortnightly newspaper. As we turned one year in March 2019, the team, under the superlative guidance of our visionary publisher Mr Roshan Nauhria, decided to go weekly. One year on, we feel excited as a media group, for having made a significant mark on the multicultural media platform of New Zealand.
People always look for a change in everyday life and seek for new ideas and innovative measures. We are happy to have succeeded in fulfilling this aspiration of our readers. We do get regular feedback by phone calls and emails from our loyal readers telling us what they like about The Indian News and what they don’t. Our readers are our best critic also and we constantly keep trying to know from them about their views & inputs and try taking their ideas on board. We always try to bring up community issues and concerns, events, protests or celebrations to incorporate them in our reviews and news reporting. We have tried to bring numerous unsung heroes and high achievers from our community to the forefront and share their stories of struggle and success with our readers. These success stories inspire many new subcontinent migrants coming to New Zealand and show them the way. We as a new entrant, faced many challenges on every front but we learnt our lessons with experience. Ethnic print media in New Zealand is a very small and tough market. Journeys like ours are never easy, neither it should be. Any success achieved through toiling and hard work is more rewarding than getting it by short cuts. We, as team are proud to have achieved it by sheer hard work and honest commitment.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our readers, well-wishers, advertisers and people of community for their unflinching support and priceless contribution, to take us through our journey. We endeavour to continue on our path of free, fair and unbiased journalism to give our readers the freedom of deciding what is right for them. We don’t believe in being judgemental in our news reporting as we understand, that is not our job. Our job is to report the news content in its real spirit to our readers and let the readers make their own opinion about it. As newspaper, we will continue striving on the path of exploring new avenues, setting new goals and taking the journalism back to where it belongs- to the people.
