My name is Jagmeet Singh Warraich. I came to New Zealand as an International student in October 2014, for my higher studies, just after finishing my school. I was only 18-year-old then. At first I lived in a very small town, Hawera in the Taranaki region, before moving to Christchurch in December 2015, for my internship.

As for my background, I come from a very small village called Kumar Majra, which is located on the border of Haryana and Punjab. My family has always been involved in community service back home. My father Hoshiar Singh is a village numbardar, my uncle served in the Haryana Police, and my grand-father was the village sarpanch. I can speak three languages – English, Hindi and Punjabi. I am based in Wigram Skies, Christchurch, where I live with my elder brother Narinder Singh Warraich, who is involved in lots of local community work as well. With my appointment as one of the youngest JPs in New Zealand now, I am ready to serve the wider public in whatever way I can.
