A total of $2,026 were raised in Gisborne at an Australian bushfire fundraiser, organised by the Tairāwhiti Multicultural Council (TMC) and Bollywood Stars restaurant, on India’s Republic Day.
This was an initiative of Arish Naresh, who hails from Nandronga, Fiji, and is part of the TMC, and Baljeet Sandhu, who comes from Zira in Punjab, and owns the restaurant. On the menu was the choice of either butter chicken or dal makhani. For every $10 per meal, the organisers donated $5 to the noteworthy cause.
“Thank you Tairāwhiti for supporting our fundraiser today. We raised $2026 for bushfire appeal, and it will be donated to Salvation Army. Baljeet Sandhu, Lata Kumar, Sarwan Kumar, Richard Vijay Singh, Ravinesh Shareen Chandra, Meredith Stewart – thanks for all the help. Apologies if I missed anyone off the list. Tairāwhiti Multicultural Council is always ready to support people in need,” noted Naresh in a Facebook post.
