The Canterbury Indian Tamil Association (CITA), which aims to help and support the Tamil community in the Canterbury region and also promote and bring awareness of the Tamil language and wider Indian culture, celebrated the Pongal festival last weekend. Along with the traditional festivities, there were special gifts for best dressed couple as well. “The event was attended by over 150 people from the Tamil community. We celebrated the festival our traditional way, by keeping Pongal in a pot followed by singing and dancing. The event also had games for everyone, followed by traditional Pongal lunch,” informed Sandheep, Secretary of CITA. (pic credit: CITA)
