The Uttar Pradesh Association of New Zealand (UPANZ) illuminated the spirit of togetherness and devotion as it celebrated Prakash Parv 2025 on October 5 at the Balmoral Community Centre, Auckland. The event turned out to be a grand success, blending faith, festivity, and community bonding in a dazzling display of colour, culture, and joy.
The celebration featured an exciting lineup of cultural performances, interactive activities, and food and craft stalls, creating a carnival-like atmosphere. The venue was beautifully decorated, capturing the festive spirit with vibrant colours and traditional motifs that transported everyone to the heart of India’s cultural splendour.

The festivities commenced with “Ram Ji Ki Aarti”, setting a spiritual tone for the evening. The auspicious lighting of the diya was conducted in a unique and heartwarming manner — as members of the UPANZ Executive Committee walked in gracefully carrying diyas, handing them to the chief guest, Hon. Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India in Auckland, and other distinguished guests. The symbolic gesture represented light conquering darkness and the collective blessings of the community.
A series of captivating musical performances followed, filling the hall with energy and devotion. The afternoon unfolded with fun games hosted by the lively MC Junoo, who kept the audience entertained and engaged. One of the highlights was the Ramayan-themed presentation, where children dressed as beloved characters like Lord Ram, Sita, Hanuman, and Lakshman. Their innocence and enthusiasm won everyone’s hearts, making it one of the most cherished moments of the day.

The event continued with a rich showcase of devotional songs, classical and Bollywood dances, and interactive quizzes, where sponsors generously distributed a wide range of gift items to participants and winners. The atmosphere came alive when renowned singer Kapil Bhagat took the stage, mesmerizing the audience with his soulful renditions of popular and devotional songs.
The lively marketplace drew constant crowds, offering a delightful mix of Indian delicacies and festive treats. Guests indulged in favourites such as noodles, Manchurian, pani puri, dahi vada, mango lassi, and homemade sweets, while also exploring non-food stalls featuring jewellery, clothing, handicrafts, and Diwali-special décor items. A grand raffle draw with exciting prizes added an extra thrill to the already vibrant celebration.
In his address, UPANZ President Rakesh Maihar expressed heartfelt gratitude to the community, saying, “Prakash Parv is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of unity and togetherness. With the community’s support, our sponsors, and dedicated volunteers, we’ve created unforgettable memories. Vice President Kashika Singh acknowledged the immense teamwork behind the event’s success, noting that “over 40 days of meticulous planning and dedication by our team led to this flawless celebration. It’s teamwork at its best, and we look forward to an even brighter future.”
Finally, Patron Anurag Rasela ji extended his appreciation to all committee members and volunteers, personally presenting mementos to participants and supporters in recognition of their efforts and enthusiasm. -TIN Bureau
