A woman was seriously injured during a carjacking in West Auckland when her hand got caught in a car door.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of a commercial property on Alderman Drive in Henderson, according to a police spokeswoman.

“Police are in the early stages of investigating a carjacking in Henderson that left a woman injured,” the spokeswoman said. “It appears the victim’s car was stolen, and during the process, her hand was caught in the car door.”

The woman was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. A source revealed that the victim, who is of Chinese ethnicity, lost several fingers in the incident. Despite the severity of her injuries, she remained remarkably calm when speaking to police, with the help of a Chinese-speaking staff member from the nearby West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre.

Witnesses at the scene described a shocking amount of blood on the floor leading from the entrance to the counter, where the woman was being attended to. One witness, who saw the aftermath, said the woman appeared to be in her early to mid-60s and had been at West Wave alone. Her leg was also badly bruised.

The vehicle involved in the carjacking has since been recovered, and police are speaking to three individuals in connection with the crime.

Matt Nash, the Auckland Council leisure network services manager, confirmed that council staff responded quickly to the incident. “A staff member called emergency services, and our team provided first aid until St John Ambulance and police arrived. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we wish her a speedy recovery.”

Nash emphasized that the safety of customers and staff is the council’s top priority and that they strongly condemn any violent or illegal behavior at their facilities. The council is cooperating with the police, providing CCTV footage to assist with the investigation. They believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.–TIN Bureau
