Members of the Sikh community in Hastings are seeking support from the wider community to build the first-ever Gurudwara in Hastings.
For this, several community members recently met the only Sikh member in the New Zealand Parliament Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, and thanked him for his support towards construction of the Gurudwara in Hastings.
The construction of the new Gurudwara met with some local resistance which has finally been cleared by the Hastings Council and the consent to build the Gurudwara has now been granted. The construction will start soon now. The Sikh Community members who came to Auckland to meet Bakshi included Mohinder Singh Nagra, Jagjivan Singh, Gurumukh Singh Hayer and Sukhwinder Singh Kooner.
