The Garden City will host an event to mark the 150th year of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi the coming weekend.
“For the first-time, we will mark such an event here, which is very timely, as we think Gandhiji was the greatest gift of India to the mankind. The event will trace his links and influence in UK, India, South Africa, and of course here in New Zealand. There will be speeches by the Indian High Commissioner, and City Councillor Jimmy Chen; an audio-visual presentation of his life in several languages; as well as a keynote by Associate Professor at University of Canterbury, Nilakent,” informed Natu Rama, from Christchruch based Mahatma Gandhi Birthday Celebration Organising Group.
