In a world-wide recognition of the great Indian journalistic traditions, the winners of the Pulitzer Prize for 2020 were declared on May 4, with Channi Anand, Mukhtar Khan, and Dar Yasin of The Associated Press winning the prize for Feature Photography for their coverage of the Jammu and Kashmir lock-down, after the erstwhile state’s special status was revoked. Joining the trio are Reuters photographers Anushree Fadnavis and Adnan Abidi who, along with their colleagues, were awarded the Pulitzer in the Breaking News Photography category for their coverage of the citizens’ protests that rocked Hong Kong last year.
