HariPrabodham New Zealand’s historic community spiritual venture was formally unveiled in West Auckland with the inauguration of the Harisumiran Community Centre, highlighting the growing social, cultural and economic contribution of the Indian community to New Zealand.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who inaugurated the centre, said the country’s progress is closely linked to the contributions of the Indian diaspora. He praised the community’s strong work ethic, optimism and determination to build better futures for the next generation, noting that New Zealand benefits greatly from communities that invest not only in business and employment, but also in social cohesion and shared values.
The Harisumiran Community Centre, constructed, owned and managed by HariPrabodham New Zealand, is part of a multi-million-dollar development focused on faith, service, cultural heritage, youth engagement and community wellbeing. Its opening marks a significant milestone for West Auckland, providing a purpose-built space where people can come together through spirituality, volunteering and cultural activities.

The inauguration ceremony was held at Te Pai Netball Arena in Henderson on Saturday 7 February that attracted more than 1,500 attendees. Reflecting the global reach of the HariPrabodham movement, around 500 delegates travelled from overseas, including the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Dubai, Singapore and Australia, underlining the organisation’s strong international connections.
Senior political and diplomatic leaders attended the event, reinforcing its national significance. Alongside the Prime Minister were Ethnic Communities Minister Mark Mitchell, Consul General of India in Auckland Dr Madan Mohan Sethi, and Members of Parliament Carlos Cheung and Cameron Brewer. They were joined by community leaders and representatives from a wide range of cultural and faith backgrounds.

Mr Luxon also spoke about the strengthening relationship between New Zealand and India, describing it as closer than ever before. He reflected on his official visit to India in March 2025, during which he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said both leaders shared a vision for a deeper and broader partnership. He noted that progress on a Free Trade Agreement demonstrated growing confidence and cooperation between the two nations.

The ceremony was further elevated by the presence of His Divine Holiness Guruhari Prabodh Swami Maharaj, revered by followers of the HariPrabodham movement. His arrival in a specially decorated vehicle was greeted by hundreds of devotees by waving the HariPrabodham flag, creating a powerful display of unity and devotion.
Speakers highlighted that HariPrabodham NZ is distinguished by its strong youth involvement and volunteer culture, inspired by the teachings of the Swaminarayan faith and the guidance of the HariPrabodham Gurus. In Auckland, the organisation has been strengthened through years of selfless service by dedicated community members, including Mohan Daya, Ashok Patel and Morar Nanubhai.

Spiritual reflections were shared by Sarvamangaldas Swami of Atmiya Vidya Dham in Anand, Gujarat, who spoke on the concept of sangh, or association. He said the company people keep shapes their values and direction in life, explaining through a simple analogy that individuals gain purpose and strength through meaningful spiritual connection and service.
Founded in 1974 by His Divine Holiness Guruhari Hariprasad Swami, HariPrabodham now operates more than 500 centres worldwide. Its philosophy, Akshar Purushottam Upasana as revealed by Bhagwan Swaminarayan, emphasises devotion, moral discipline and spiritual growth guided by the Gunatit Guru.

The organisation runs programmes focused on youth and women’s empowerment, leadership development, meditation and cultural education, guided by four principles — Seva, Smruti, Suhradhbhav and Swadharma. In New Zealand, the Harisumiran Community Centre in Henderson will serve as a lasting spiritual and cultural hub for West Auckland and beyond. The event concluded with a lavish Gujarati-style dinner served to all attendees, including the Prime Minister and his delegation, who joined guests in enjoying the traditional cuisine.
