Auckland witnessed a landmark moment for junior cricket today with the successful *first-ever IPL-style Opening Ceremony for NZ IPL Junior*, marking a new chapter in youth sports and community engagement in New Zealand.

The vibrant ceremony was designed to give young cricketers an authentic *Indian Premier League (IPL)-style experience*, celebrating talent, teamwork, and cultural harmony. The event brought together young players, parents, community leaders, and distinguished guests, creating an atmosphere of inspiration and unity.

The opening ceremony was honoured by the presence of several prominent political and community leaders, including:

* *Jenny Salesa*, MP for Ōtara-Papatoetoe
* *Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi*, Former MP
* *Paramjit Parmar*, ACT Party MP
* *Bala Beeram*, National Party Candidate for Kelston
* *Mahesh Muralidhar*, National Party Candidate for Papatoetoe
* *Navtej Randhawa*, Labour Party Candidate for Botany
* *Kharag Singh*
* *Anae Neru Levasa*
* *Marshall Ahluwalia*

Also in attendance were *Mukesh Kaushal, Chairman of Papakura Cricket Club, along with entrepreneurs and community leaders including **Ranjay Sikka, Veer Khar*, and several other inspirational figures who came together to support this historic initiative.

The *NZ IPL Junior Tournament* will be held on *24th and 25th January* at *Bruce Pulman Park, coinciding with **Auckland Anniversary Weekend. A total of **8 teams* will compete across *two age groups — Under 12 and Under 15*. Winners and runners-up in both categories will be awarded trophies, recognising excellence and sportsmanship.

The event was organised by a dedicated group of parents and volunteers — *Neha, Neal Nitin, Bhalinder, Diljeet, GurAman, Man Preet, Hemant, Sonu, Rinku, Vikas, Sahib, Sukhbir, Sulhjinder, and Nitin* — who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. The organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to all guests, supporters, parents, volunteers, and community organisations who contributed to the success of the opening ceremony.

The *Indian cricket community in New Zealand* continues to play a vital role in promoting cricket among young people, while fostering *sportsmanship, inclusivity, and harmony across communities*. Several community organisations have extended their support and confirmed their presence throughout the tournament.
