                                                                                 Disha Insights: Stories & Updates

DISHA New Zealand Charitable Trust wrapped up the year with a heartwarming Christmas Celebration at the New Lynn Community Centre on 8 December, bringing together seniors, families, volunteers, and community partners for a day filled with joy, culture, and festive cheer. Supported by the Whau Local Board, the celebration was a beautiful reflection of community spirit, gratitude, and togetherness as we marked the end of another meaningful year.
The event was honoured by the presence of Mr. Fasitua Amosa, Deputy Chair of the Whau Local Board, who attended as the Guest of Honour. We were also delighted to welcome representatives from Hindu Elders, Asian Family Services, and Age Concern Auckland, whose ongoing collaboration and support continue to strengthen our shared commitment to the wellbeing of older adults and diverse communities.

The celebration came alive with a rich lineup of performances that truly showcased talent across cultures and generations. Our heartfelt thanks go to the Onehunga Chinese Association for their elegant and graceful dance performances, which captivated the audience and highlighted the beauty of cultural exchange. The hall echoed with music and emotion as Kapil Bhagat and Vinaben Dhana filled the space with their mesmerising songs, creating moments of connection and joy.
As always, DISHA seniors were the true stars of the day. Their enthusiastic performances — filled with confidence, creativity, and heartfelt expression — were met with warm applause and admiration from everyone present. Their energy and spirit were a powerful reminder that ageing is something to be celebrated with dignity, joy, and pride.
Adding to the warmth of the celebration was a sumptuous Christmas lunch, enjoyed by everyone and prepared with immense care and love. A heartfelt thank you to our supporters Sanjana Kaur and her mum Gian Kaur from Shubh Takeaway, who have always been standing by DISHA NZ. Their continued generosity in providing delicious, home-style meals at a very reasonable price has always been deeply appreciated. The lunch was not only nourishing but also brought a comforting “home away from home” feeling to our seniors. We truly value their dedication, commitment, and unwavering support to our community.

No Christmas celebration is complete without a special visitor, and our cheerful Santa brought smiles, laughter, and festive magic to all, spreading happiness across generations. The event was further enhanced by the thoughtful touches behind the scenes — stunning decorations by Mrunal, beautiful photography by Madhav ji, and coverage by our valued Media Partner, The Indian News, helping capture and share these memorable moments.

We extend our deepest appreciation to our dedicated volunteers, whose passion, commitment, and tireless efforts keep DISHA NZ shining throughout the year. A special thank you also to the PranaPhysio NZ team for supporting our wellbeing-focused exercise sessions, reinforcing the importance of staying active and healthy at every age.
DISHA NZ sincerely thanks the Whau Local Board and the New Lynn Community Centre for their continued support throughout the year. Together, we celebrated not just Christmas, but community, culture, and the shared values that connect us all.

As the year comes to an end, DISHA New Zealand Charitable T

rust extends heartfelt thanks to each person who contributed to DISHA throughout the year — our seniors, volunteers, performers, supporters, partners, funders, and community organisations. Your time, generosity, and unwavering support have helped create a space of connection, care, and joy for our community. We wish everyone a warm and joyful festive season and a very Happy New Year. May the year ahead bring good health, happiness, and continued togetherness for all.
