The New Zealand Telangana Central Association (NZTCA) proudly hosted the much-awaited Bathukamma Festival 2025 at the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, Auckland, on Saturday, 21 September. The event brought together close to 800 attendees, filling the venue with colour, music, and the spirit of Telangana’s rich traditions.
The celebrations commenced with a Mix & Mingle at 4 PM, allowing community members and guests to connect before the formal program. The festival was officially set in motion with the invocation of Engilipoola Bathukamma, a symbolic and historic first-of-its-kind observance in Aotearoa. This was followed by the much-loved Bathukamma Aata, where hundreds of women and families joined in circular dances around beautifully arranged floral stacks, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion and joy.

The highlight of the evening was an electrifying live performance by acclaimed music composer and singer Sri Raghu Kunche. His energetic renditions of popular songs captivated the audience, who joined in singing and dancing along. He was accompanied by talented local artists, adding a special flavour that seamlessly blended homegrown talent with international artistry. For many, it was a “never-before, never-again” experience that perfectly united culture and melody in one unforgettable night.

The program was elegantly steered by Masters of Ceremonies Ms. Aiswarya and Mr. Kiran. With their poise and enthusiasm, they kept the audience engaged and ensured the smooth flow of activities throughout the evening.
Adding a touch of sparkle to the celebration was a lucky
draw sponsored by Malabar Gold. Several winners walked away with Diamond voucher gifts, spreading joy and excitement across the hall. NZTCA extended special thanks to Malabar Gold for being the main sponsor and for their generous support in making the festival a success. Bank of Baroda NZ also supported the event and was represented by its Managing Director Sandeep Khetan.
The evening was graced by prominent dignitaries and community leaders. Hon. Carmel Sepuloni, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, attended the event and delivered an inspiring message on the importance of cultural harmony and inclusiveness in New Zealand’s multicultural fabric. Local MPs, community leaders, and dignitaries from across the country also joined in, reflecting the festival’s growing significance in bringing diverse communities together.
No Telangana celebration is complete without its distinctive cuisine. The evening concluded with a traditional Telangana dinner, offering guests a taste of authentic flavours that complemented the festive mood and left everyone with a sense of home and belonging.
In their closing remarks, NZTCA President Sri Kalyan Rao Kasuganti and General Secretary Sri Rammohan Danthala expressed heartfelt appreciation to all dignitaries, sponsors, volunteers, and community members. They emphasised that the success of Bathukamma 2025 was a collective effort that reflected the strength and unity of the Telangana diaspora in New Zealand.
Bathukamma 2025 was more than a cultural event—it was a celebration of identity, togetherness, and pride. It showcased how traditions can thrive thousands of miles away from their roots while strengthening community bonds and promoting cultural harmony in a diverse society like New Zealand.
The festival will be remembered as a landmark celebration that once again demonstrated the vibrant spirit of Telangana and the warmth of its people. -TIN Bureau
