The list includes three distinguished academics, two visionary business leaders, an expert in asset management, and a dedicated community worker. Each of them has demonstrated a relentless passion for their work and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
Professor Harjinder Singh

Sudesh Jhunjhnuwala
Entrepreneur and philanthropist Sudesh Jhunjhnuwala, the visionary behind Sudima Hotels, was honored as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM). Raised in Kathmandu and Hong Kong, Mr. Jhunjhnuwala brought his entrepreneurial spirit to New Zealand, creating one of the country’s leading hotel chains. Known for prioritizing sustainability
and accessibility, he attributes his success to his family values and the dedication of his team.
Dinesh Khadka
Dinesh Khadka, a prominent Auckland businessman and Honorary Consul of Nepal, has been named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for his inspiring work within the Nepali community. Starting his journey in New Zealand in 2000 with meagre resources, Mr. Khadka worked tirelessly, rising from taxi driver to a successful entrepreneur. Today, he leads thriving ventures, including a cleaning company and a kiwi fruit farm. His resilience and compassion during tough times have made him a pillar of strength for the Nepali diaspora in New Zealand.
Priyani de Silva-Currie
Priyani de Silva-Currie, an expert in infrastructure asset management, was also named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. With over 30 years of experience, she has significantly influenced asset management in New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. Her advocacy for multicultural communities and small businesses has been instrumental, including launching initiatives like the Migrant Business Forum as President of Multicultural New Zealand.
Dr. Rachel Simon-Kumar
Dr. Rachel Simon-Kumar, Co-Director of the Centre for Asian and Ethnic Minority Health Research and Evaluation at the University of Auckland, was recognized as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Originally from Kerala, India, Dr. Simon-Kumar has made a profound impact through her research on ethnic and minority communities, with a focus on issues such as family violence, reproductive health, and women in politics.
Jyoti Parashar
Jyoti Parashar has received the King’s Service Medal for her selfless contributions to the Indian community in New Zealand. A social worker and advocate, Ms. Parashar has dedicated her life to supporting women, older adults, and those facing challenges like domestic violence and mental health struggles. Her initiatives, such as founding Sakhi—a platform for women to connect and grow—have empowered countless individuals. She also initiated and founded groups like DISHA and Udaan to cater the needs of different age groups. Reflecting on her journey, she credits her family and community for their unwavering support.
