Despite the lack of violence or threats toward the staff, the incident was unsettling for those working in the store.
Inspector Alisse Robertson of the Auckland Police commented on the incident, saying, “While no threats were made to the staff, it’s still a situation they shouldn’t have had to go through. It can be distressing when something like this happens right in front of you.”
Following the theft, police acted quickly, tracking the suspect to a property in the nearby suburb of Morningside. Both the pendant and the necklace were recovered, much to the relief of the store and its staff. “It’s a good result we’ve been able to resolve this matter quickly and put someone before the court,” said Robertson.
The arrested man has been charged with theft and is set to appear in the Auckland District Court today, facing serious consequences for the crime.
For the staff at St Lukes, the day may have started like any other, but it ended with a reminder of how quickly things can take a turn. Fortunately, police were able to respond efficiently, ensuring the stolen items were returned, and justice will be served.
