Following the overwhelming success of the first Rotorua Ethnic Market and in response to popular demand, the second Rotorua Ethnic Market is set to take place on Sunday, 22 September 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Hindu Heritage Centre, 225 Malfroy Road, Rotorua. This upcoming market will once again celebrate the diversity and rich cultural heritage of Rotorua’s ethnic communities. Visitors can explore a variety of stalls featuring unique products that reflect the traditions, artistry, and craftsmanship of different cultures. The market will offer an array of goods, including traditional crafts, clothing, jewellery, artwork, home decor, and an enticing selection of vegetarian culinary delights that showcase authentic flavours.
“We were thrilled with the community’s response to the first Ethnic Market, and we are excited to host this event again,” said Komal Sahani, the joint coordinator of the Rotorua Ethnic Market.”Just like the first event, we anticipate attracting visitors from not only Rotorua but also from neighbouring regions such as Taupo, Tauranga, Hamilton, and Auckland. This free event is a wonderful family outing where visitors can enjoy vegetarian cuisine, support local artisans, and immerse themselves in a new Dharmic tradition.”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The market is a collaborative effort between the Hindu Heritage Centre and the Rotorua Multicultural Council. The inaugural market, which was officially opened by Dr Margriet Theron, President of the Rotorua Multicultural Council, received significant media attention from both Indian and local media outlets, including Indian Newslink, Indian Weekender, Indian News, and the Rotorua Daily Post. This coverage helped the event achieve a considerable impact, drawing diverse crowds and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Building on this momentum, the organizers aim to establish the Rotorua Ethnic Market as a regular event, potentially monthly, to continually provide a platform for ethnic communities in Rotorua to showcase their cultures, connect with others, and contribute to the city’s vibrant multicultural landscape.
