Family members of a man discovered deceased in a car outside a vape store over the weekend are reeling from the tragedy, according to Auckland councillor Josephine Bartley.

Upon arrival, authorities found the man’s body inside the vehicle, with shattered glass and blood near the driver’s side.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ash Matthews stated that initial investigations suggest the individuals involved were acquainted, although the circumstances are still under investigation.
Councillor Bartley, who has been in touch with the victim’s family, conveyed their profound shock and grief. “I received a message from his aunt on Facebook,” she shared. “They are in shock, and understandably upset.”
Concerns over community safety have been voiced following the incident. Bartley highlighted the community’s desire for enhanced safety measures and community facilities in the area, alongside calls for robust law enforcement responses to crime.
“I’ve heard serious concerns from residents about safety in the area,” Bartley remarked. “Our community is troubled by the recent spate of gun-related incidents in Auckland.”
Acting Detective Inspector Chris Allan assured ongoing investigations and pledged increased police presence in Mount Wellington to reassure locals. He encouraged anyone with information to contact the authorities.
