Udaan, a recently launched nonprofit initiative, hosted its inaugural Job Search and Career Development Workshop at the Balmoral Community Centre in Sandringham on Saturday 9th March. The event witnessed a capacity crowd of aspiring immigrants eager to enhance their employment prospects and navigate the New Zealand job market effectively.
Driven by the vision of empowerment and community upliftment, Udaan was founded by the quartet of Jyoti Parashar, Shveta Shah, Bela Divecha, and Mahima Sukheja. These four dynamic women identified the need for guidance and support in career development and came together to launch “Udaan – Let’s Shine Together.”
The Udaan initiative is ably supported by New Zealand’s oldest Hindu temple and now the largest community hub for the people of Indian community, Bharatiya Mandir, and Matakite Trust.
Mission:
Udaan’s mission is to empower individuals by sharing knowledge and skills, fostering professional and personal development, and promoting a sense of community among immigrants.
• Career Exploration: Participants gained insights into various career pathways available in New Zealand.
• Cultural Understanding: Understanding the cultural nuances of working with Kiwi companies and government agencies.
•Job Search Strategies: Participants learned effective job search techniques, including leveraging online platforms, networking strategies, and tapping into hidden job markets to uncover employment opportunities across New Zealand.
• CV Development: Practical tips were shared on crafting effective resumes tailored to the New Zealand job market.
• Interview Skills: Techniques for acing job interviews were discussed, helping participants build confidence in their interactions with potential employers.
