Former TVNZ presenter Oriini Kaipara has slammed the broadcaster’s decision to axe a number of high-profile shows, arguing it will have a negative impact on journalism in New Zealand.

She also expressed concerns about the job security of journalists in New Zealand following the announcement.
Broadcasting Minister Melissa Lee has also spoken out about the cuts, saying she is “disappointed” to see local content being axed.
“These are important shows that provide a platform for a range of New Zealand voices,” Lee said.
“I am committed to supporting our local production industry and will be working with NZ On Air to see how we can best support broadcasters to produce high-quality local content.”
TVNZ has defended its decision to axe the shows, saying it is necessary to make savings in a challenging economic climate.
The broadcaster said it is committed to producing high-quality local content and will continue to invest in shows that resonate with New Zealand audiences.
