In 2017, with the support of Bharatiya Mandir, a group of ladies initiated “Sakhi – Together we Grow and support one another,” a platform for ladies dedicated to strengthening the community thorough sharing, caring, and support. Since its inception, Sakhi has been successful in providing a space where women can find motivation, encouragement, and fellowship.

Recently, the group organised a highly successful ladies’ high tea event, leaving attendees delighted and inspired.

The event, organised by Sakhi admins Jyoti Parashar, Lavanya Komal, and Smriti Saini with the help of volunteers Priya Ramrakhiani, Neelu Ghai, Amita Bansal, Sunitha Itla, Nirzari Jani, Jaswinder Sachdeva (Jazz), Vanni Kapoor, Monica Arora, Sonia Srivastav, was a splendid affair filled with enthusiasm and positivity. Special guests Shivani Arora and Shweta Prabhakar graced the occasion by sharing their inspiring journeys to motivate and uplift other women. The event also featured cultural performances, scrumptious food, and many prizes, contributing to the overall joy and celebration.

The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the sponsors, including Ofculturz Brands, Dazzle Boutique, Mystic Jewels, Mystic Kitchens, Jewelsbyns, Sparkle Events NZ, Little Luxuries, Kriti Attire, Rinku’s Kitchen, MD Creations and Aadhya Productions. These sponsors kindly sponsored beautiful gifts that added to the excitement and enjoyment of the attendees. The lovely decoration for the event was masterfully done by a team of young girls, Aarusha Ghai, Nisarga Patil, and their friends, who volunteered their time and talent to create an enchanting ambiance.

Over 90 women attended the event, relishing the opportunity to network, connect, and enjoy the array of prizes and gifts. The positive energy and camaraderie at the event reflected the essence of Sakhi’s mission, which is to foster an empowering and supportive community for women within the Indian diaspora. Sakhi continues to thrive as a beacon of support and encouragement, making a positive impact on the lives of countless women in the Auckland Indian community.

In the years that followed, Sakhi’s empowering model resonated with women in different parts of the world. In 2021, Sakhi expanded its presence to Australia. One of the founders, Aditee Naik, moved to Melbourne and played a pivotal role in establishing the Sakhi community there. Since then, she has been passionately helping ladies in Melbourne to connect, grow and thrive together.

Furthermost, the Sakhi movement reached the city of Amritsar early this year, where Minny Mehra is playing a vital role in connecting and empowering ladies in that region.
